Andreas Dressler

CEO, FDI Center

Andreas Dressler has been active in foreign direct investment (FDI) for 30 years. He works with countries, regions, and cities to implement investment promotion strategies and attract new investment. He also assists companies from different industries to select the best locations for their operations and secure favorable conditions for their investments worldwide. Andreas’ areas of expertise include location analysis, site selection, investment incentives, location benchmarking and investment attraction and promotion.

Andreas started his career in 1996, joining KPMG’s International Trade & Investment Services group in Washington, DC. His initial work involved helping companies to develop international market entry strategies, although he soon shifted focus to advising on location selection for international expansion. In 1998, Andreas moved to New York to join KPMG’s Business Incentives Group, which specialized in assisting companies to secure government incentives for new investments and expansions within North America.

During his time with KPMG in New York, Andreas expanded the service offering of the group to include location advisory. He also he created a specialized cross border investment practice (Global Location & Expansion Services) and coordinated a global network of location advisory and economic development consultants. In 2003, he moved to Frankfurt to build a location advisory group for KPMG in Europe while continuing to coordinate the firm’s global FDI advisory activities. During his time at KPMG, Andreas assisted dozens of companies to select international locations for new manufacturing plants, shared service centers, R&D centers, headquarters and other types of corporate facilities.

In 2009, Andreas founded Terrain, a specialized consulting firm providing services to companies and investment promotion agencies (IPAs) worldwide. Terrain quickly became one of the most respected consulting firms in the field of foreign direct investment and provided services to the IPAs of numerous countries, states, cities and industrial parks including Australia, Austria, Finland, Chile, Virginia, North Carolina, Victoria, New South Wales, Copenhagen, Paris, Frankfurt and London. Terrain also assisted companies from the automotive, food, chemicals and other industries to select locations for new facilities. Terrain was acquired by Conway Data Inc. in 2013. Following the sale of Terrain, Andreas continued to run the company as a stand-alone division until the end of 2016.

In 2017, Andreas founded Location Decisions, a corporate location consulting firm, and FDI Center, an advisory firm that assists governments and locations worldwide with strategy, performance and capability building.

Andreas has a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies in Washington DC and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Bath in England. He speaks English, German, Spanish, Italian and French.
